About Noldes Hygge Hjem and your hostess

Who I am
I’m Debby: hostess, farmer and writer. I’m married to Frank, and together we have three children. In 2018, we traded the Netherlands for farm life in southern Denmark, where we run a dairy farm with around 250 cows.

I love creating, telling stories and meeting people. But I also treasure the silence, the nature and the peace that are still so tangible here in the countryside.

When we got the chance to buy Noldes Hygge Hjem in November 2021, I immediately saw how much potential this old place held. Not just as a guest accommodation, but also as a place where history, hospitality and my love of creating could come together.

A place that gives something back to me too
Noldes Hygge Hjem came into my life during a hectic period, when I myself needed rest and space. As I shaped the house bit by bit, something happened to me too, almost without noticing. Between the old walls, in the garden, while cleaning and while making something beautiful with my hands, I slowly found a piece of myself again.

That’s why Noldes Hygge Hjem means much more to me than just a holiday home. I give her my time, attention and love. And in her own quiet way, she gives me back rest, inspiration and happiness in return.

That love for the place is often found in small things. A handmade wreath of flowers from the garden and the fields. A fresh bunch of flowers on the table. An old object that was once forgotten, but at Nolde finds new life and new meaning. Nothing here needs to be perfect or new. It’s precisely the traces of the past, the little imperfections and the objects with a story that give the house its soul.

My hope is that you feel a bit of that as a guest. That when you arrive, you set down your bag, look around for a moment, and notice the pace naturally slowing down. Perhaps this place will then bring you a little of the same peace it has given me.

Our farm life
Our dairy farm is right next to Noldes Hygge Hjem. If you’re genuinely curious about farm life, the cows or where milk comes from, feel free to ask during your stay. If work and circumstances allow, we’ll look together at what’s possible. A farm is, first and foremost, a working business. That’s why we deliberately keep visits small, personal and always by arrangement.

My love for Denmark
Over the years, my love for Denmark has only grown. I love heading out to discover quiet walking routes, old villages, special houses and places off the well-known tourist paths. As a writer, I often look just a little longer at what I come across along the way. A flower by the path, a forgotten object or an old house can easily become the start of a story. I share my discoveries and stories on my blog, and of course also love sharing them personally with my guests.

Do you need a walking tip, a nice route or a special spot in the area during your stay? Feel free to ask me. I’m happy to think along with you.

Why Noldes Hygge Hjem

The name actually says exactly what this place wants to be. Nolde refers to the small hamlet where the farm is located. Hygge is the well-known Danish feeling of warmth, cosiness and togetherness. And hjem means home.

Noldes Hygge Hjem: a warm home in Nolde.

My wish is that you find the rest, freedom and sense of security here to simply not have to do anything for a while. Whether you stay for a few days, a week or longer: feel welcome, take your time, and let this old place become, for a while, a small part of your own story too.

Warm regards,
Debby
